Look for Less: Bring on Spring

Every year around spring time, I find myself hoping for longer days, warmer temperatures, the fresh air, and lasting sunshine (not to mention around here my shooting hours extend by 2-4 hours per day which is amazing!). Around the same time, I find myself with a huge need to hit the refresh button on my wardrobe. Today, I decided to give myself an interesting challenge, creating a current look with items purchased from past seasons. When you look at the cost difference, the prices and savings are incredible.

Let’s start with the original. I don’t know what it is, maybe it’s my love of earth tones or the Northern California vibe, but fresh neutrals with a bit of texture, sparkle, and shine, have been my speed as of late. With temperatures with highs in mid 70s-80s and start in the morning in the low 40s, layering is a necessity. This original look from Anthropologie, combines my love of texture, timeless layers, and a perfectly imperfect look. Using items I had on hand, I layered up and headed out on the town for this shoot.

Let’s begin with the jacket. With the perfect color of a light heathered gray, I decided to emulate the texture of the original tweed by donning this sweater moto jacket from Gap (past season). It’s perfect for a long day of running errands or creating on the go. Paired with a vintage V-neck tee for Target (past season) with a graphic copper foil arrow pattern, it adds an additional layer, metallic shine, and subtle pattern. It gives a nod to the top in the original, with it’s burnout geometric and line details, without breaking the bank.

Now, onto the jeans. These cuffed boyfriend jeans have become a laid-back staple in my wardrobe. These jeans are so versatile. Perfect with a heathered v-neck and bare feet around the house or dressed up for a night out, they span all occasions. Today I went with a pair of suede bootie wedges from Target (past season). For the jewelry, I opted to combine a few styles. Using a pair of rhinestone dangling earrings from Target (past season) and geometric rings, I played with contrasting styles, the romantic and the modern. The rings have the perfect combination of midi sizing and geometric variety from Lauren Conrad’s latest line, Kohl’s. I can’t tell you how much I have loved these rings as of late. They have become daily staples, along with my watch and a wrap bracelet.

Thanks for joining me in the latest tour of my closet. I’m excited for this column and hope it helps you look at your closet in fresh, new ways. It has definitely reminded me that with a bit of creativity, I can create current looks without spending a dime. I hope this springtime look finds you in days of iced coffee, longer lasting sunshine, and springtime adventures. Bring on the spring!
