Go play outside.

I know this seems obvious, but maybe it’s time to go grab a sled and find a favorite hill. You did it when you were a kid and loved it. Why not go play again? Live in a mountainous area? Go rent a pair of snowshoes and go snowshoeing. Find a friend with a four-wheel drive vehicle and go on an adventure.

Try a new recipe or throw a cupboard challenge.

You know that new recipe you’ve been wanting to try? Go on ahead and try it! There’s nothing quite like something warm and comforting on dreary, gray days. Head into the kitchen, put on your favorite apron, and get cooking. Don’t have all the ingredients for a new dish? Issue yourself a cupboard challenge, where you use down items in your pantry and freezer to make something new. Your culinary prowess just might surprise you. Here are a few recipes I’ve been wanting to try. These chocolate and citrus brioche buns look like the perfect compliment to a cup of coffee. Looking for a comforting and hearty dinner? This mushroom gnocchi dish looks amazing.

Pamper yourself.

With the onset of a long winter, brings brisk air and dryer climates. Your skin and hair might be feeling it. Use your spare time to fight winter and give your skin the love that it needs. Using natural ingredients, make a few masks to add moisture back into your skin, fix chapped lips, and relax at home. One of my favorite tricks? Using coconut oil to deep condition dry hair. Another option? Get a roommate or spouse to use some of your favorite essential oils and give you a backrub. I love using lavender right before bed or peppermint to soothe sore muscles. Want to take your pampering to another level? Use water and the microwave to steam hot towels and incorporate these into your treatments.

Get a head start on your spring cleaning.

Why wait until there’s sunshine and birds chirping? Get started on your spring cleaning now. Maybe your kitchen needs a good deep clean, your pantry needs some serious organizing, or your closet needs to be sorted. Want to try a capsule wardrobe for winter/early spring? Why not start now? Here are some great tips to get started. Once you sort your closet, you can always host an amazing closet sell or clothing swap with friends.

Cozy up with a cup of coffee and a book.

When was the last time you got lost in a good book? The kind with paper where you flip the pages and can’t stop reading for hours. Whether it’s a tried and true favorite or a new one that has been sitting on the night stand, now’s the time. Feeling restless? Put your phone on the other side of the room, light a great candle, and make yourself a delicious cup of coffee. Last week an Aeropress showed up on my doorstep and it’s been a game changer for the winter months. I think I have a few books that are calling my name. Have a great weekend everyone!
