A Perfect Day for the Farmer’s Market

On most Saturday mornings you will find me here. With a cold brew from Scout Coffee in hand (topped with an orange slice), I head to the farmer’s market to find fresh fruits, veggies, and cheeses for the week. Because we live in a mediterranean climate we have farmer’s markets almost year-round, with a short break in the winter months. However, summer at the farmer’s market is my absolute favorite.

From breakfast and coffee vendors, to duck eggs and fresh goat cheese, you can find most anything at the market. I usually begin my morning wandering the aisles and picking items that will inspire new recipes or round out my grocery list. One of my favorite summertime produce item to find are varieties of heirloom tomatoes. In the cherry form, I couldn’t resist these little guys. I’m thinking bruschetta or on a crudite tray would perfect for them, coupled with some of those beautiful carrots and radishes.

Then I head over to the plants. We have an incredible selection of nursery items, succulents, and fresh cut flowers to choose from. Knowing the shoots I have for the week, I usually stock up on some fresh plants. (And who would turn down a few more cute succulents, right?)

If I get an early start, I head home after shopping and take some veggies and make a lovely omelet or frittata for a brunch among friends. With a french press of locally roasted coffee, I can’t think of a better way to ease into a Saturday morning.

What are some of your favorite farmer’s market finds?
