Loving the Simple Things

Loving the Simple Things

Last week I found myself with some of my favorite people. My thanksgiving week was filled with friends and family and quite a bit of time on the road. As I spent the week away from my usual pace, currently, I’m loving the simple things. I think I learned this lesson most intently from my niece. As a one-and-a half year old, she is incredibly curious, learning new words and experiencing many things for the first time. Seward Park is on the shore of Lake Washington and our typical route in the park meant some much needed play time at the pebble beach. There was another little girl there with her family, throwing rocks into the water and watching them splash. Initially, my niece was intrigued but hesitant. A few minutes later, she was throwing rocks in the lake like a pro. Her face would light up and fill with laughter upon each splash, the dancing of the water’s reflection, and the sound of the water on the beach. It was in the simplicity of this moment that my heart wasn’t worried anymore about the turkey to be cooked the next day, the perfect flower arrangement to be made, or completing my holiday shopping list before the end of the weekend. Instead I was enjoying just being there, surrounded by people I love, in nature, and taking it all in.

Today may you find yourself enjoying the simplest of moments. May your heart enjoy a cup of tea under a cozy blanket, the peace of gazing into a the lights on Christmas tree, or the ability to see things through the eyes of a child.
