The College Girl’s Guide: Dorm Style, 3 Ways

It’s August and that means heading back to school for many. For some, it means heading to a new home and creating an awesome space to live in on their own, for the first time. With that in mind and by popular request, I’m adding a new column for the next month, the College Girl’s Guide. Whether you’re headed to college for the first time, returning for another year, or going back to school these tips and tricks are sure to help you start off with success. Let’s begin with talking through the space you will spend the most time in- your dorm room. When I headed to college (ahem…9 years ago), I wanted everything to look amazing from day one. (It also meant redecorating every school year, which I didn’t mind one bit.) Your dorm room is the place you spend many hours hanging out with friends, making quick meals, sleeping, and studying. With so much time spent in your room, it’s time to outfit it in style.

Keep on reading for 3 ways to decorate your dorm (without it looking like the dorm aisle in your big box store).

 Boho Glam

This girl is one who is up for adventure, climbing, hiking, and can lay her head most anywhere. Known for her incredible yoga poses on Instagram, she loves spending time clean eating and hanging out with her fellow yogis. Her room is peaceful, earthy and has an eclectic, bohemian vibe.

For the girl who loves watching episodes of Downton Abbey and dreams of a honeymoon in Paris, this room is perfect for relaxing and enjoying a good book. Incorporating a great record player with built in USB, this room takes you back to days of old and timeless traditions. If you dream of clawfoot tubs, black and white patterned tile in your home one day, this room is for you.

Plain and Simple

This girl loves to keep things minimal and intentional. This look is one of my favorites. With a few statement pieces, this room is based in neutrals, but is anything but boring. I love this look as you can change pieces out over the course of time and still have your larger items (comforter, lamps, etc) to use. (I love this because you can invest in your basics pieces, like fluffy white comforters and nice sheets.) If you’re worried about having a white comforter in the dorm, don’t be! Bleach and homemade cleaners can get out any stains that might come on the comforter.

Whatever your style, the dorm is the perfect place to creatively express yourself. Say farewell to the decor of seventh grade and have fun with your roomie creating an amazing space for both of you to enjoy!
