Thoughts for Monday

This Monday has been a different one of sorts. I’m back from a trip and am starting a new season. With the fall season comes great amounts of change. While I’ve prepared, I don’t know that I’ll ever feel prepared enough for any season and this one is no different. This morning I found myself in a brief planning session at a kitchen table sitting across from friends at breakfast. I found these words coming out of my mouth, “I make time for spontaneity.” I said it and I couldn’t believe I had uttered the words. I plan time for fun. When did I become one of those people? THe person who needed to plan out deadlines, production schedules, and plan for fun. It was alarming and a bit of a wake-up call for me.

While this next season will be a busy one I was reminded of this quote from Mark Twain. “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the tradewinds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” As I read this quote I’m struck with one thought. What does it mean to embody this? Not to be reckless or irresponsible, but to live radically well? Going after your best, living with intention, and following your destiny. There will be times to press in, to go after it, and there will be moments to know that it’s a season of rest. Maybe it’s rest among the chaos and busyness of life or rest among the adventures that will fill the pages of your story. Whether planned or spur of the moment, I want to be known as one who risks it all for the sake of love. Today, what is the one thing you wish you could do, dream, or discover, but have been holding back? Today is the day! Go and take hold of all of your dreams.
