Christmas in A Box

christmas-in-a-box

Because of my recent move, Christmas has felt different this year. While I will be traveling back East for the holidays soon, this year hasn’t quite been the snow-filled, holiday-parties-every-weekend, Christmas seasons of the past. As I find myself in this place, I know that many people don’t have the luxury of traveling home for the holidays. How do you find some clever ways to include these loved ones, letting them know they are cared for and supported during the holiday season, regardless of the distance? With this in mind, I created a simple idea – Christmas in a box. I discovered this concept a few years ago when I wanted to celebrate a milestone birthday people in my life, but family lived cross-country. My solution? Filling a box full of some of my favorite party supplies and decor, to allow for momentous Skype celebrations. With this project, the sky really is the limit. Maybe you and your sister always made Christmas cards together as kids and miss the holiday tradition, or maybe you all baked dozens of cookies. Build a box with your favorite Christmas scrapbooking and cardmaking supplies, or red and green sprinkles, food coloring, and your favorite Frosty cookie cutter. Whatever the interest of your recipient, this intentional moment of happy mail won’t go unnoticed. Maybe you have someone on your list who could use Christmas in a box as well.

Suggested Supplies:

  • Bottle brush trees
  • Wooden ornament (click here for instructions)
  • Clothespins with your favorite ribbons and bakers twine
  • Gift tags
  • Glitter washi tape

Line your box with tissue paper. Fill the box with the various Christmas items purchased. I always like to include a handmade Christmas card, some favorite Christmas recipes, and a link to my holiday Spotify Christmas playlist for the year.
