Look for Less: Spring Refresh Chinos

There’s something about spring. Whether it’s the cherry blossoms filling the trees, the welcome sight of sunshine, or warmer temperatures, we’re embracing spring around these parts. I’m soaking up as much sunshine as I can before I find myself in the middle of poolside days and final school assignments. With spring comes the typical fashion standards. There’s ivory lace, a touch of pastel and blush, stripes, and the always classic-chino. This look for less is inspired by chino, a preppy classic. Can this look go editorial, using items already in my closet?

Chinos. There’s something about these chinos. I found them at an American Eagle outlet outside of Dallas, Texas. Then, they were the perfect casual option to dressed down meeting attire and were a score at $4. They fit like a glove and I’ve owned them for around 6 years. That’s right, 6 years. The olive color, the distressing, the contrasting stitching. It’s always perfect. Whether worn hiking, adventuring at the lake, or dressed up for an elevated casual look, they hug in all the right places and have a great seat to them. Pegged or worn as is, there’s something about these pants that have stood the test of time.

Stylist Tip: Wanting to peg a pair of boot cut chinos? Grab excess fabric into a triangle and lay flat against the side of your leg. Roll the pant leg up multiple times until desired length and fitted around calf.

Lace up ballet flats. This was a trend I had thought about for a while and was hesitant to purchase, but I am so happy I went for it. They’re perfect paired with pegged black skinnies, a distressed pegged jean, or dressed up with black tulle skirt. As you can imagine, I wear them a lot and they add incredible visual emphasis to this look, shifting it from spring neutrals to editorial in a quick second.

Layers. For this look, I added a basic ivory sleeveless blouse and a denim jacket to stay warm indoors. (The AC in class can make anyone wish they had an extra layer.) To accessorize, I layered on some of my favorite minimal pieces in similar tones of gold and was ready for the day.

Makeup. Want a bit of sun kissed and dewy skin for spring? Add a bit of bronzer.

Stylist tip: Apply in a backwards 3 starting with your temple, then your cheekbone, and your chin. Use a blending brush, blend in with your foundation. Add a bit of luminizer to your cheeks and a pale highlight below the brow, near the inner corner of your eye, and where any dark circles may be looming. You’ll look awake, refreshed, and like you’ve had three weeks of vacation for free.

What are some of your favorite classics for spring?
